Diversity management is an organizational approach to promote inclusion of employees from different backgrounds. Specific actions and programs are requested in order to get organizations ready to adopt strategies that fit the growing diversity of the workforce all over the world. The concept of “diversity” was born in North America in the mid-1980s. The then United States President, Ronald Reagan, wanted to dismantle the equality laws, as they were viewed as legal constraints. But employees didn’t agree: they considered diversity management as a competitive advantage to US companies rather than as legal constraints.
